Right?

The flight was yet to take off- and I was already already deeply engrossed in the book. A loud voice - an angry young man demanding his rights!! His seat had been taken by someone else - an old lady who obviously found it difficult to move around.

I looked around the plane - as did everyone else in the vicinity. The plane was more than half empty. You could have a whole row to yourself if you wanted. And he had some passengers pointing it out to him.

Yet here was this young man, ousting an old lady - he had a right to his seat!

All right, he did have a right. But right or not - it didnt seem right. Or am I looking at it with the wrong perspective?

Entertainment on board!

Have any of you taken a domestic flight recently? I did - and was struck by the announcements on board the flight. I wasn't able to understand a word of what was being said!

Oki - I agree that I am not a hindi pandit - and that may have caused some confusion during the Hindi announcements! But to my amusement, I realised it wasnt any different in English!!

Slurred speech, rendered too fast and indifferently - had the passengers amused, confused & bemused!

"Ldies n Gnenmen - sncks n bvrg wll sooon b sreved on board. theprce lst is at ur set - feel freeto odr ur nees!!! "

The thing is, the point was lost on a lot of passengers, who didnt realize they had to pay and exorbidantly too, for the snacks - and thereby ensued a righteous brawl about airline fare!!

If only the announcement was made slowly, loudly and clearly - it would have saved everyone a lot of trouble

And announcements continued- about "turbunce, reay for takof, smucking n toiless" .....

I wonder if any of these airlines moguls- who so pride themselves on excellent service, have ever heard how their flight attendants sound? If it is too much problem to help them hone their communication skills, wouldn't a taped announcement would do?

Oh well - if it doesn't worry them - it certainly should just entertainment on board to us!!!

It ain't cricket!!

Isn't that amusing? Ricky Ponting cribs about time wasting tactics of England during the Ashes! Ponting should be the last man pointing fingers, accusing or otherwise!
There isn't a single ploy or plot that the Aussies haven't used to win a match in all the years under Ricky's captaincy - including claiming catches that were grounded, blocking a batsman taking runs by standing in his way etc. The world knows that the record breaking winning streak they claimed was never their victory! They didnt break any records except the one for shocking the cricketing world for their "win at all cost - and fairplay be damned attitude".

What's the matter Ricky? Don't you like it when other teams take a leaf out of your book? Maybe they're inspired by your captaincy! Anyway, the copyright to underhand tactics isn't solely yours! Now that's a bitter pill to swallow, isn't it?

Breaking news??

I love the way TV channels keep breaking news – even when the news is a few days old! A huge ticker tape that keeps saying BREAKING NEWS does look impressive! Of course you realize at once that its being re – broken. Again and again. Recycling news?

And the same stock pics re-running for hours in the background – while the reporters desperately try to find something new and sensational to say about an event that is fast losing its sheen!

It cant be easy to be a 24 x 7 news channel. Look at the problems they face – news doesn’t happen that often – leaving these poor channels very often to create news, create controversies or blow up tiny events that were better off being ignored. Much ado about nothing Shakespeare would say!

Some times it’s like watching a soap opera – with all the trials and tribulations created by the media. Are they in the wrong profession then? Would they be better off producing TV serials? After all the TRP ratings are far higher for serials. And these poor news channels keep trying so hard to compete with them!!!

Lets not be too harsh on them while they bring us news live or dead – after all they’re just trying to keep up with the soaps!

What's troubling you, baby?

In a philosophical discussion I had recently with a friend - we were debating on fear being the origin of all our negative emotions - like anger, guilt, jealousy, resentment etc.
The fear of not having, of losing, of not achieving, of not being able to fend for ourselves, of not being thought well of, of not being loved... the list is endless.
If we could identify our core fear - it would make a huge difference to our ability to deal with our world. We could be more active than reactive, more positive and negative - and more capable of identying what we need and want and reaching our goals.

Wow - talk about surmising about life's primary problem in one short paragraph!! Obviously easier said than done!
But, am just thinking.... if we could only point ourselves in the right direction - wouldn't it be a giant leap for us?

But that again is easier said than done. Can we really identify why we react negatively in certain situations? Or is it easier than we fear? What is it that we're really afraid of?

Meditate on this!

Try meditation - said a friend. It would help de-stress. Keep your mind blank and concentrate on your breathing! Easier said than done. The only time my mind goes blank is when my boss asks me a question. Sit down cross legged and thoughts race through my head and then come back for re runs!

Concentrate on my breathing??? But I'm asthmatic! Wheeze , puff pant - meditation doesnt work for the lay man or woman!

Not now, darling!

Anytime we have the urge to kick up our heels and give ourselves a good time , we tell ourselves"Not now , darling". It's not the right time to live your dreams, you still have responsibilities - you have a long way to go.
Sure we have responsibilities. We've always had - ever since we were pushed into L KG and had to learn our alphabets. Year after year the responsibilities changed and grew - but there were, are and ever will be omnipresent in our lives.
So when do we let our hair down? And scoot off for a bit and give ourselves the time our dreams are made of? The time could never be right, unless you choose to make it so!

If you don't start taking your first step towards it ... and little steps thereafter - it could be too late.
How many plans have you made? How many steps have you taken? Keep track- for your dreams lie in them!

A friend in need

You know - when things go wrong - nothing works like friendship does. You're hurting inside - something has gone wrong - and you don't know how to set it right. Call up a friend or two - spend time with them - you needn't even even talk about whats troubling you .... but you feel yourself lightening up - the dark giving way to light within you.

If you're in trouble - its certainly not the time to withdraw into yourself. No matter how tempted you are to shut out the world.

Idiots n Boxes

Our media scares me. Some of the news channels think they have a right to pass judgment on everyone and everything. The power of the pen seems to have diminished compared to the power of the idiot box – with idiots manning it.
Take, for example, their reaction to India losing the T 20 matches ….. some channels were out to lynch Dhoni – throwing tantrums because Team India didn’t win. Never mind his spectacular winning streak over the last two years – ooooooooooooh they dared not to win this time – and they shall be equated with the terrorists who attacked Mumbai and thus condemned for eternity – or till he pleases them with a win again!
The same reporter had the nerve to ask Sachin – “Don’t we overreact as a country???”

Why are we pointing fingers at them – we’re the idiots watching the idiot box! Now you know why its been christened so!!! Bunch of idiots who think they're thinking out of the box!
